ABOUT CALL THE GAME

Call the Game was established in June 2003 scheduling slow pitch softball and basketball. Over the years, we have added football, volleyball, fast pitch softball and baseball.

Our fiscal year runs from April 1 to March 31, with our last year we scheduled over to 21,000 and revenue estimated at $700,000. The estimation is because the high schools and several leagues generate their own payroll.

Prior to establishing Call the Game, John Dehan was the assigner to the Great American Basketball League in the Shawnee Mission area from 1994 – 1997. John has been assigning sports for nine years: basketball (9), softball (5), volleyball (3), football (3) and baseball (1).

John has amassed 25 years of officiating experience, giving him a keen understanding of youth sports and youth sports officiating. He possesses 25 years of experience as a basketball official; with 17 years as a registered varsity basketball official. John also has five seasons of experience as a varsity football official and is embarking on his first season as a baseball umpire this year. In addition, this spring will represent his sixth season as an umpire for ASA adult softball.

Call The Game currently assigns for a variety of youth and adult leagues, as well as the high school leagues that are sanctioned by either Missouri or Kansas respectively. His experience allows him the ability to assign games from El Dorado Springs, MO to Leavenworth, KS and from Topeka, KS to Independence, MO. He is currently serving leagues or schools in this diverse geographical area.

With a staff of 575 officials, Call the Game is able to recruit and train new officials in all of the sports in the area. All officials are required to register with their state and reciprocate to others if they officiate in other states. In addition to the state meeting, Call the Game holds an association meeting to discuss the upcoming season’s goals and expectations.

Training of the staff is a constant exercise. Prior to a season, there will be camps held to train the new officials and any official who may have had challenges in the prior season. Seasoned veterans are invited to be clinicians.

Call The Game continues to evaluate officials at all levels throughout the year. Officials In Charge, or OIC actively monitor officials and umpires as the season progresses. The official may few this evaluation on the arbiter.
